Our Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is considering moving the Balfour ferry terminal to a new site in Queen’s Bay. On Sunday, August 21st, we are having a beach day to support keeping the terminal in Balfour, and conserving Queen’s Bay.
The idea is for people to come and tour the shoreline that would be paved and turned into a parking lot if the ferry terminal were moved, and at precisely 2 PM, we’ll all jump into the lake and go for a swim as a show of support for conserving wild spaces on Kootenay Lake. Turtle Rock Beach is the entry point and will have an information display where you can learn about the issues. If you don’t know where that is, it’s at the southern-most end of the threatened stretch of beach in Queen’s Bay (there will be signs to direct visitors). Try to carpool to avoid parking headaches. Bring everyone you know and a watermelon; make a day of it.
We need a new ferry, not a new Queens Bay ferry site! We look forward to working with you on this important issue. Watch for notices and updates, and thanks for participating.
